Pomegranate Banana Breakfast Shake

I wish that every morning could be a Sunday morning when we have the leisure to sleep in, get up in no rush, enjoy a long and relaxing breakfast with family and sit around in PJs forever. Yes, that would be my kind of perfect morning.

Unfortunately it is often pretty hectic. In addition to our usual breakfast staples of granola with yogurt, cooked oatmeal, and soft boiled eggs on toast, we just found this pomegranate banana breakfast shake, which adds another tasty but quick and healthy solution to our weekday mornings.

The pomegranate banana milk shake gets assembled by blending pomegranate juice, milk, frozen bananas, good vanilla extract and honey. In less than two minutes you are rewarded with a velvety, fresh and scrumptious tasting morning treat that allows you to start your day healthy and nutritious. Did you know that pomegranate has been tested to be one of the leading sources of antioxidants?

A view out of one of my kitchen windows shows you what our mule deer friends outside are up to in the mornings. I prefer my pomegranate banana shake over their breakfast choice.

Don’t miss out on this delectable and smooth pomegranate banana breakfast shake. It is out of this world. My kids also enjoy this shake as a mid afternoon snack after returning from a long day at school.

Serves 2.

Ingredients:

*  1 cup (250 ml) POM 100 % pomegranate juice
*  3/4 cup (180 ml) milk, soy milk, or almond milk
*  1 frozen banana, peeled and sliced
*  1 teaspoon good vanilla extract
*  honey or sweetener of your choice

Directions:

In a blender combine pomegranate juice, milk, banana, vanilla and honey (amount depends on your preference of sweetness for the shake). Blend on medium high for 30 seconds. Pour the shake in glasses and serve.

Love POM, and I'll bet this drink is just yummy and an energy booster for the morning or the afternoon when you need that kick to finish the day!

I only make smoothies once in a blue moon, but I love them. I've tried to drink straight-up pomegranate juice, but it was just too sour. So I love how this is paired with banana, milk, and vanilla. Looks delicious and I've added it to my list!

What a wonderful view you have. I am just hoping that there wasn't dogs barking in the background. I'm with you, there's nothing I like better than lazy Sunday mornings with the family. This smoothie looks wonderful. Beautiful color!

Let me start by saying, how amazing to have deer right outside your window…I know what you mean, it would be nice if every morning could be like Sunday morning. To make you smile on a Monday morning, come over to my house and pick up your award. http://nutsaboutfooditaly.blogspot.com/2011/04/sicilian-oven-roasted-artichokes-thanks.html

My kids are smoothie fanatics and have one quite frequently for snack or breakfasts, especially during the summer months. They would love this version! Thanks for sharing :o)

Now this sounds like a morning shake I could love and it's good for you. I can't wrap my head around something green and seaweedy. Nope.

A reader mentions the availability of pom arils at Trader Joe's. Sigh…we don't have Trader Joe's in Colorado (and won't until grocery stores are allowed to sell alcohol other than 3.2 beer) but I did find them at Costco for a period of time. Now that's a convenience food I loved!
